: Exploring The USA: Everything You Need To Know If You’re Visiting From Overseas

The US is a great place for Americans to explore, let alone visitors from different countries. If you’re thinking of heading over and checking this beautiful country out, these travel tips will help you to make the most if your stay.

Planning your visit

There’s no hiding the fact that America is vast. If you’re only stopping for a couple of weeks, you’ll need to plan ahead to make sure you see the best we have to offer. Before you start looking at dates and flights, do some research online to see what you need to travel. Visitors from most countries will require a tourist visa. You can apply for one online at official-esta.com. It’s also always a good idea to check your passport. If your passport has expired or it’s due to run out soon, you may need a replacement.

Once you’ve got all your papers in order, the fun bit begins. Think about the kind of vacation you want to plan. Do you want to spend all your time in one area, or are you keen to get out and about? Have you always dreamed of planning an authentic US road trip? Or are you planning to hop from one city to another? If you’re staying in one place, planning your holiday should be straightforward. If you’re moving around, it may take a little more time.

Getting around

In the US, we’re blessed with excellent transport links, which make it easy to get around. Most large towns and cities have an airport, and you can also take advantage of rail and bus services. If you’re visiting major cities, like New York, you’ll find that the subway is often the best option to avoid traffic. If you’re channeling Thelma and Louise, look into car hire online. You can compare prices, and often rates are more competitive. You could also consider renting an RV, which would save you a lot of money on hotels.

US customs and useful travel information
The currency in the US is the US dollar. It’s always wise to have cash on you, as we’re big on tipping, but cards are accepted almost everywhere. There are fifty states, and each one has slightly different rules. If you’re unsure about what’s legal and what’s not, always double check. The legal drinking age is 21, rather than 18 like it is in many European countries.

Many visitors to the US focus on New York and Los Angeles. But it’s such a shame to devote all your time and attention to just two cities. If you have time, get out into the national parks, and travel around. You’ll quickly learn that there’s much more to America than neon lights and skyscrapers.
